Margherita

‘Margherita’ room… With its italien 19. Century Fer Forge heardboard, this room is named after the Queen of Italy, ‘Queen Margherita’, (1851-1926), the wife of King Umberto I. Queen Margharita made her mark in culinary history by popularizing the humble pizza when she expressed a desire to taste the fare of her slightly more common subjects on a visit to Naples. According to legend, in 1889, the Margherita pizza, whose red tomatoes, green basil and white cheese represent the italian flag, was named after her. Queen Margherita was a woman who enjoyed her experiences for herself, in the moment, a woman of character. This room sembolizes the ‘vulnerability’ as she asserted her femininity through and the ‘taste’.
